Bonté Foods Wins Military Contract for 250,000 Sandwiches

Dieppe based Bonté Foods/Chris Brothers announced they have won the renewal right for the Gagetown military boxed meals contract in conjunction with Mulders Meats in Oromocto. The boxed lunches are produced using fresh sandwiches produced at Bonté Foods RTE Meals division.

“The contract is for approximately 175,000 lunch boxes which translate to approximately 250,000 sandwiches over the course of the year,” says company president Michael Whittaker. “Last year was the first year we had the contract for the fresh sandwiches so to win it again this year is a testament to our excellent facility and talented team.”

The military meals are used for troop field exercises. Whittaker added that “the meal specifications are extremely rigid and the entire R&D,QA and Food Safety teams spent countless hours preparing for the presentation to Gagetown.“

Mulders of Oromocto is the distribution partner for the huge contract. Mulders GM Errol Kennedy says “we’re delighted to once again win this contract together with Bonté Foods. Keeping the business here in New Brunswick is a win win for everyone. “

The boxed lunch contract supports 10-12 positions at the Bonté plant although no new jobs would be required since Bonté had the contract from the previous year.

Bonté Foods brands include the Chris Brothers and Nature’s Deli lines available at all Atlantic Grocer stores. Bonté Foods/Chris Brothers announced on Jan 1 of this year that their entire meat lines are now gluten free. The boxed lunches are produced in a segregated area of the plant.
